WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Mazie K. Hirono (D-HI), a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee and Chair of the Subcommittee on Readiness and Management Support, expressed her satisfaction after voting to pass the bipartisan national security funding package with aid for various regions.

In a statement released today, Senator Hirono highlighted the significance of the funding package, stating, “Today, after months of needless delay, Congress has made good on its commitment to stand with our allies and defend democracy at home and abroad. With urgently-needed funding for Ukraine, Israel, and our partners in the Indo-Pacific, this bill will help strengthen our national security, and that of our allies around the globe. Importantly, this legislation also includes billions in humanitarian aid for civilians in Gaza—aid that needs to be delivered without delay or interference, in accordance with international law.”

Senator Hirono also expressed relief that assistance is finally en route to allies, especially Ukraine, despite delays caused by Republicans. She emphasized the importance of American leadership in times of global instability, stating, “In this moment of global instability, American leadership is as important as ever. I’ll continue working with my colleagues to ensure our national security and support our allies the world over.”

The national security supplemental, which includes critical aid for allies and humanitarian funding, has now been passed with Senator Hirono's support.
