The Mauna Kea Astronomy Outreach Committee (MKAOC) is hosting Kona’s annual AstroDay celebration on Nov. 5 at Kona Commons Shopping Center in Kailua-Kona.
The free open-air event is an interactive opportunity to learn about astronomy and the discoveries being made by telescopes in Hawaii.
The Maunakea Observatories and other science-based and community organizations will feature science exhibitions, demonstrations, and activities, according to a release from the Kona-Kohala Chamber of Commerce.
Organizations scheduled to participate in this event include Island observatories, including UH Institute of Astronomy; Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope; Gemini Observatory, TMT International Observatory; W.M. Keck Observatory; Subaru Telescope; Las Cumbres Observatory and Daniel K. Inouye Solar Telescope.
The science organizations scheduled to attend include Hawaii Community College’s Natural Sciences Dept.; the Center for the Study of Active Volcanoes; Hawaii Keiki Museum; Hawaii Science & Technology Museum; ‘Imiloa Astronomy Center; Hawaii Electric Light; International Lunar Observatory Assn.; National Weather Service Mauna Loa; NASA Solar System Ambassadors and Project PANOPTES.
