Attorney General Anne Lopez, along with attorneys general from 12 other states, has released a joint statement in response to President Trump’s recent executive orders aimed at dismantling diversity, equity, inclusion (DEI), and diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA) policies. The statement criticizes the orders as “unnecessary and disingenuous,” arguing that they do not address discrimination but rather target lawful programs beneficial to all Americans.

The group of attorneys general emphasizes that these DEIA initiatives are aligned with state and federal anti-discrimination laws and foster environments where everyone can succeed. They argue that the president’s actions undermine efforts to create fair workplaces and opportunities for all.

In their statement, the attorneys general express strong opposition to what they describe as an attempt by the president to “weaponize decades-old policies” that have been supported across political lines to combat historical inequities faced by underrepresented communities. They assert that DEIA initiatives promote respect, understanding, and the celebration of diverse perspectives in workplaces and educational settings.

The statement also addresses President Trump’s claims linking DEIA initiatives to a recent tragic plane crash. The attorneys general dismiss these claims as baseless and offensive.

Highlighting their role as chief law enforcement officers in their respective states, the attorneys general reaffirm their commitment to enforcing civil rights laws and protecting against discriminatory practices. They condemn discrimination in any form and oppose the president’s executive orders.
