Court interpreter orientation workshops scheduled across Hawaii

If you are bilingual and interested in utilizing your language skills, consider registering for the Court Interpreter Orientation Workshops. Completion of these workshops is a requirement to become a court interpreter.

The workshops will be held over two days from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at various locations:

– Hilo: February 20-21 at Hale Kaulike (Hilo Courthouse)
– Maui: February 26-27 at Hoapili Hale (Maui Courthouse)
– Kona: March 4-5 at Keahuolū Courthouse (Kona)
– Kauaʻi: March 11-12 at Puʻuhonua Kaulike (Kauaʻi Courthouse)
– Oʻahu #1: March 28-29 at Aliʻiōlani Hale (Supreme Court building)
– Oʻahu #2: April 4-5 at Aliʻiōlani Hale (Supreme Court building)

Registration forms can be found on the Judiciary’s website or by contacting the Office on Equality and Access to the Courts via email at OEAC@courts.hawaii.gov or phone at 808-539-4860.

The registration fee is set at $25, with support provided by the State Office of Language Access. In addition to completing the workshop, prospective court interpreters must pass a written English proficiency exam, an ethics exam specific to court interpreting, and undergo a criminal background check.

Court interpreters are compensated with a minimum pay rate of $35 per hour.
