The Hawai‘i Department of Health (DOH) Food and Drug Branch has notified the public about a recall from Sprout Organics involving its 3.5-ounce Sweet Potato Apple and Spinach pouches due to potentially elevated lead levels.

The product was distributed across the United States, including at Walgreens stores in Hawai‘i. The Food and Drug Branch is collaborating with local retailers to remove the affected items from shelves.

Lead exposure can harm individuals of all ages, but children are especially vulnerable. The DOH emphasized that “lead is toxic to humans and can affect people of any age or health status and protecting children from lead exposure is important to lifelong good health.” Parents and caregivers whose children may have consumed these pouches are advised to consult their child’s healthcare provider regarding blood testing.
