The Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) has announced the opening of the 2025 Spring Bearded Turkey Hunting Season on Hawaiʻi Island. The season will commence on March 1 and continue for 46 days, concluding on April 15, 2025. This hunting period is designated exclusively for bearded turkeys.

Hunters are permitted a daily bag limit of three bearded turkeys, with an overall season limit also set at three. To participate, hunters must possess a current unused turkey tag during their hunt. Tags are priced at $5 each for residents and $20 each for nonresidents, and they cannot be transferred to another person.

Traditional tags should be attached using snaps, while printed tags need to be placed in a sealable plastic bag and securely fastened around the neck or leg of any bird immediately after it is taken. These tags can be acquired either in person at the Hilo Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW) office or through online purchase.

Further information regarding hunting regulations can be found on the DLNR website. Hunters seeking to purchase turkey tags may do so via the provided online portal.
