The Hawai‘i Department of Health (DOH) Food and Drug Branch has notified the public about a recall from Moonlight Companies involving its yellow and white peaches. The recall was issued after Listeria monocytogenes was detected in the packing facility environment.

According to the DOH, the affected peaches were distributed nationwide between September 16, 2025, and October 29, 2025. In Hawai‘i, they were available at major retailers including Costco, Target, Whole Foods, Times Supermarkets, and Big Save. The department is coordinating with these stores to ensure that no recalled products remain on shelves.

The recall covers both individual peaches with PLU stickers and multipacks. Products labeled “Washington” or “Organic” are not included in this recall. Detailed information about the product types, packaging, PLU stickers, UPCs, facility codes, and lot codes is provided by the DOH for consumers to verify if their purchases are affected.

Listeria monocytogenes can cause listeriosis—a potentially serious infection—especially among pregnant individuals, newborns, older adults, and people with weakened immune systems. According to health officials: “Listeriosis can cause miscarriages and stillbirths.” Healthy individuals may experience symptoms such as fever, severe headache, muscle aches, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain or diarrhea. Symptoms typically develop within several days but can appear up to two months after consuming contaminated food. The infection is treatable with antibiotics.

“Please contact your healthcare provider immediately if you are exhibiting symptoms after having consumed any of the recalled products,” the DOH advised. As of now, there have been no confirmed reports of illness or adverse events linked to these peaches.

Consumers are urged to check their fruit using the production information provided by the DOH. If in possession of recalled peaches, individuals should seal them in a zip-top bag and dispose of them safely. It is also recommended to wash hands thoroughly and sanitize any surfaces that may have come into contact with the fruit.

For questions about refunds or further information regarding the recall process, consumers can reach Moonlight Companies at 855-215-5017 Monday through Friday from 2 a.m. to 11 a.m. HST.
