The Hawai‘i Department of Health (DOH) Food and Drug Branch (FDB) has notified the public about a recall involving specific batches of Gerber Arrowroot Biscuits. The recall, initiated by Gerber Products Company, follows concerns over possible contamination with soft plastic or paper pieces that could pose a choking hazard or cause injury. The source of the contamination was traced to an arrowroot flour supplier who began the recall process.
The affected product was distributed across the United States, including major retailers in Hawai‘i such as Walmart, Target, and Longs Drugs. The DOH Food and Drug Branch is coordinating with these local stores to ensure the recalled items are removed from shelves. Consumers can identify recalled packages by checking the 10-digit batch code located on the back of the packaging before the best-before date.
No injuries or illnesses related to this issue have been reported in Hawai‘i so far. The FDB advises customers to check if they have purchased any of the recalled products and not to give them to children. Customers may return recalled biscuits to the place of purchase for a refund. Those worried about possible injury or illness should consult their healthcare provider or call 911 in case of emergency.
