Community health centers (CHCs) on the islands of Oahu, Maui, Molokai and Hawaii will receive more than $8.15 million in federal funding for health care services to underserved communities.
Sen. Mazie K. Hirono (D-HI) announced the funding from the Department of Health and Human Services.
“Community health centers help ensure that everyone, especially rural and underserved communities, can access the health care services they need,” Hirono said in a recent release from her office. “These health centers provide crucial resources to people across Hawaii and the country who might otherwise not have access to quality health care. I will continue to support our CHCs and help secure the funding they need to serve communities on every island.”
The five centers that will receive funding include Hana Community Health Center ($1,233,746 in funding); Kalihi-Palama Health Center ($2,846,540); Waimanalo Health Center ($1,733,204); Molokai Ohana Health Care Inc., also known as Molokai Community Health Center ($1,005,059); and Hamakua Health Center ($1,332,369); the release said.
The funding is the latest example of work that Hirono has undertaken to ensure Hawaii’s communities can access the health care they need. Last summer, the senator visited the Waimanalo Health Center to meet with staff and see their new building.
