The Pacific Tsunami Museum announced its Black and White Night event, scheduled for November 1, 2024, as part of the Día de los Muertos celebration. The event aimed to provide attendees with an opportunity to honor deceased loved ones while celebrating the cultural significance of the occasion.
According to the event website, the Black and White Night featured culinary offerings and themed cocktails from The Temple Bar, accompanied by live music from Jazz Mele. Ticket prices were set at $100 for museum members, $120 for non-members, and $150 at the door. Proceeds were designated to support the Pacific Tsunami Museum, the Science and Technology Museum, the East Hawaii Cultural Center, and the Mokupāpapa Discovery Center. Attendees were required to be 21 years or older. The event took place in the Kaikodo Ballroom at the Science and Technology Museum in Hilo, Hawaii.
The Pacific Tsunami Museum (PTM), a non-profit organization established in August 1994, collaborates with various agencies to offer educational programs focused on tsunami awareness for residents and visitors in Hawai’i. “The museum serves as a living memorial to tsunami victims,” according to PTM.
The Hawaii Science and Technology Museum (HSTM) is a non-profit organization founded in 2015 that promotes science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM) education on the Island of Hawaii. HSTM engages students through mobile exhibits and outreach initiatives.
For more than 50 years, the East Hawaiʻi Cultural Center (EHCC) has been dedicated to fostering the arts and culture community in Hilo. It features a variety of art exhibits, performances, and classes for all ages. “Admission to the Center is free,” although donations are welcomed.
Established in 2003, the Mokupāpapa Discovery Center (MDC) aims to educate the public about the natural science, culture, and history of the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands and their marine environment. The center provides access to information about these remote islands while promoting awareness of ocean conservation.
