Non-profit organization Project Hawai’i has announced a summer educational camp from June 23 to July 27 that is free and open to the homeless children in the community.

The camp is offered to allow local children experiencing homelessness to enjoy a break from their normal routines and have a community of peers around them. The educational camp focuses on personal development, building positive relationships, and learning more about the world they live in.

The camp includes different levels for different age groups, with an educational camp for children ages 3-8, a junior leadership camp for children 10-12, and a teen mentorship program for teens who have graduated from camp, but want to come back and help. Teens can attend “teen weeks” to enjoy the activities of camp, while also learning the skills and responsibilities of acting as a mentor for the younger groups when they come to camp.

Project Hawai’i is seeking volunteers and donations for the camp to aid in specific areas. They are looking for volunteers to serve as lifeguards, activity assistants, and host some of the workshops designed for the teenage participants in the camp.

The camp is also accepting donations for basic camp and school supplies for the children who might not have their own. Items like swimsuits, snacks and food donations, school supplies like pens, pencils, and paper, are priority items.
