Public comments sought on judicial nominees for Maui’s family court

Chief Justice Mark E. Recktenwald is seeking public input on nominees for a vacancy in the District Family Court of the Second Circuit, covering Maui, Moloka‘i, and Lāna‘i. The Judicial Selection Commission has submitted four names for consideration.

The candidates are Bevanne J. Bowers, Lance D. Collins, Zachary P. Raidmae, and Sonya H. Toma. Bowers is affiliated with the Law Office of Bevanne Bowers and serves as Executive Director of Mediation Services of Maui, Inc., alongside her role as a per diem District Family Court Judge in the Second Circuit. She graduated from the University of Memphis and joined the Hawaii State Bar in 2012.

Collins operates at the Law Office of Lance D. Collins and also serves as a per diem judge in both District and District Family Courts within the Second Circuit. He is an alumnus of the William S. Richardson School of Law and was admitted to practice law in Hawaii in 2005.

Raidmae works as a Deputy Public Defender with the Office of the Public Defender. He completed his studies at Nova Southeastern University and became part of the Hawaii State Bar in 2010.

Toma holds a position as Deputy Prosecuting Attorney with Maui’s Department of the Prosecuting Attorney. She graduated from William S. Richardson School of Law and entered the Hawaii State Bar in 2007.

The final selection by Chief Justice Recktenwald will require Senate confirmation.
