The Hawaiʻi Public Utilities Commission (PUC) has scheduled a public hearing to gather community feedback on Hawaiian Electric Company’s request regarding the Pu‘uloa Solar project. The hearing will take place on Monday, March 9 at 6 p.m. at the Oʻahu Veterans Center in Honolulu.
Hawaiian Electric is seeking approval for an amended and restated power purchase agreement with Pu‘uloa Solar, LLC. The project involves a 6-megawatt photovoltaic system combined with battery energy storage. To connect this project to its grid, Hawaiian Electric proposes building an overhead 46 kV sub-transmission line extension near Salt Lake Boulevard and Namur Road. The planned extension would run about 70 feet south of the project’s substation on land owned by Joint Base Pearl Harbor Hickam.
Community members are invited to attend the hearing and share their perspectives.
The Hawaii State Executive – Governor works with partners to promote renewable energy initiatives and address climate change issues across the state, as outlined on the official website. Efforts include advancing programs that support social recovery from events like wildfires, supporting affordable housing and homelessness programs, and implementing tax reforms for affordability. These policies aim to benefit communities statewide, including those affected by recent disasters such as in Lahaina.
The PUC encourages public participation in the decision-making process related to utility infrastructure projects and renewable energy development.
