Wataru Kohashi, 100, of Hilo, died November 26, 2022, at J&K Care Home in Keaau. Born in Keaukaha, raised in the Shinmachi community of Hilo, he was a Hilo High School graduate, WWII 442nd RCT Infantry Sergeant twice wounded, retired HELCO millwright foreman and member of the 442nd Veterans Club, AJA Veterans Council, Church of the Holy Apostles and Waiakeawaena Kumiai. Private service to be held at a later date. No flowers or koden (monetary gifts). Donations may be made to Hawaii Care Choices (hawaiicarechoices.org) or Go For Broke National Education Center (goforbroke.org). Predeceased by wife, Kikuye Kohashi and son, Andrew Kohashi. Survived by daughters, Lois (Mickey) Sinclair of Port Ludlow, Washington, Julia (Francis) Zee of Hilo; son, Owen (Miky Ishida) Kohashi of Seattle, Washington; six grandchildren, Nicholas Sinclair, Kristen Kohashi, Benjamin Zee, Staci Kohashi, Samantha Zee, and Wesley Kohashi; nieces and nephews.
