The University of Hawaii at Hilo women’s basketball team faced its first downfall for the week after losing the game to Azusa Pacific University on Feb. 3.

The UH Hilo Vulcans lost the game, 69-54, at the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium last Thursday.

“The game got off to a rough start for the Vulcans when they missed their first six shots of the contest,” the Official Athletics Site of Hawaii at Hilo said. “But the home team righted the ship and scored seven straight points to take a 7-6 lead after a Mandi Kawaha three-pointer. The teams would go on to trade leads throughout the quarter, six different times. Azusa Pacific scored the last basket of the first quarter to take a 15-14 lead heading into the second period.”

The Vulcans now rank 8-7 for the season and 5-6 in the PacWest, according to the Official Athletics Site of Hawaii at Hilo.

Azusa Pacific has recorded its second-biggest lead with last Thursday’s 15-point win against UH Hilo.

The Vulcans will head to Honolulu for makeup games at Hawaii Pacific University and Chaminade University on Tuesday, Feb. 8, and Wednesday, Feb. 9.
