University of Hawaii-Hilo (UHH) baseball player Joseph Gallagher’s prowess at the plate has earned him more honors, being named to the All-West Region Second Team as a designated hitter.

The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) selected their top players in the region, creating a first team, second team and honorable mentions, UHH said in a recent release.

First-team selections were from the Pacific West (PacWest) Conference, Great Northwest Athletic Conference and California Collegiate Athletic Association.

Gallagher, a graduate-student transfer, brought some offensive power to the Vulcans’ batting line-up. He slugged .549, drove in 39 runs and batted .348 with 17 multi-hit games. He was tied for the team lead in home runs, sending six balls out of the park. Twenty of his 57 hits were for multiple bases.

Gallagher was the only Vulcan player to be named to the All-West Region teams this season. He had earlier been named to the All-PacWest First Team along with teammate Casey Yamauchi.

The Vulcans finished the season 27-19 overall, and 15-17 in the PacWest.
