Vulcans' women's tennis team drops six in a row, hopes to end losing streak at home April 3

The University of Hawaii Hilo women’s tennis team dropped a couple of close matches, struggled to get on the board against the Point Loma Sea Lions and now find themselves in a six-match losing streak.

Against No. 11 Biola Tuesday, it all came down to the doubles point, as the singles matches were split 3-3. With the 4-3 win, the Eagles moved to 15-1 on the season, according to a report on the university’s sports website.

In a 4-3 loss against Concordia University Thursday, Hannah Highsmith broke serve several times in each set on the way to a 6-1, 6-2 win over Jennifer Jolin, the report stated. Hikari Osaki also won her match, defeating Alicia Da Re by taking command of the tie-breaker, 7-5, 2-6, 10-1.

The Vulcans (2-8) closed out the week with a 6-1 loss against Point Loma, with Osaki scoring the only point for the Vulcans, according to the university's website. She won her match 6-3, 2-6, 10-5.

Five of the Vulcans’ last six losses have come on the road, the university’s website stated.

The team will close out their regular season with a four match homestand beginning April 3 when they host the Hawaii Pacific Sharks April 3.
