The Hawaii Coffee Association will be hosting a Coffee Leaf Rust Webinar Series in October and November, offering essential updates on the Coffee Leaf Rust (CLR) disease in Hawaii. The series will be open to the public free of charge.

This educational initiative aims to benefit both the association's members and the wider community. The webinar series will consist of three sessions, each featuring expert speakers and a Q&A segment at the end of every presentation.

The first webinar is scheduled for October 26 at 10 a.m. and will focus on CLR on Hawaii Island. Melissa Johnson, an industry expert, will share insights on the biology, cultural practices, and chemical control options concerning CLR. Coffee growers and enthusiasts are encouraged to participate in the session, which will be streamed via Zoom.

The second session, set for November 9 at 10 a.m., is geared toward coffee farmers dealing with the disease. Lisa Keith will shed light on strategies to control CLR, ranging from laboratory research to practical field applications.

The third webinar will be led by Tracie Matsumoto and will focus on CLR resistant varieties. The presentation will explore the latest advancements and solutions in the development of coffee plant varieties resistant to CLR. The date for this event has yet to be determined and will be announced soon.

These webinars are designed to be interactive, allowing attendees to engage with the experts through a Q&A session at the end of each presentation. The Hawaii Coffee Association encourages anyone interested in coffee cultivation, from seasoned farmers to hobbyists, to participate in these sessions and gain knowledge on tackling CLR.

The Hawaii Coffee Association, founded to support people active in the state's coffee industry, including farmers, millers, traders, roasters, and retailers, is committed to continuing education for its members and consumers.
