A new pilot program is aiming to help Hawaii’s unemployed residents find remote work.

“Remote Ready Hawai‘i” will provide unemployed residents with intensive training to work as a business development representative or customer service professional and includes a paid remote internship through Instant Teams, according to a Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism (DBEDT) press release. Instant Teams specializes in assisting unemployed Hawaii residents, particularly those unemployed due to COVID-19, in finding remote work.

The program will also provide job placement assistance following the completion of training and internships, the release states.

In order to be eligible for the program, applicants must be able to commit to a paid internship with a 20-hour week after training is completed, according to the release. Applicants will also complete a written application and submit a video interview.

“Remote work for local residents is one important way we can keep families together here in Hawaii and stop the export of our talent,” Leslie Wilkins, chair of the State of Hawaii Workforce Development Council, said in the release.
