Attorney General Anne Lopez's office recently disclosed the indictment of Aaron Tuitelapaga, Bronson Tuitelelepaga, Manu Sorenson, and Josiah Palimoomanu on manslaughter charges following the death of inmate Christopher Vaefaga. Manslaughter carries a potential sentence of up to 20 years in prison.

The first community-led coral reef restoration project on the Island of Hawaiʻi, Kanu Ko‘a, has been launched by The Nature Conservancy, Hawai‘i and Palmyra (TNC) and the Kaʻūpūlehu Marine Life Advisory Committee (KMLAC). "The Nature Conservancy, Hawai‘i and Palmyra, and the Kaʻūpūlehu Marine Life Advisory Committee launches coral reef restoration project," said TNC. This initiative is a combined effort of Hawaiian culture, local community engagement, and scientific coral restoration techniques to boost the growth and recovery of coral reefs.

Traffic collision on Ali'i Drive leaves Kailua-Kona man in critical condition

According to a news release by Hawaii Police Sergeant Thomas Koyanagi, a Utah man was taken into police custody following a traffic accident that critically injured a 54-year-old Kailua-Kona man.

Two brushfires have broken out in North and South Kohala which are being actively monitored by Hawai'i County officials. Several areas of Kohala have been evacuated as a result.

Hawai'i Police Department investigates drowinging 'that occurred near the public beach access at Hokulia in Kailua-Kona'

The Hawai'i Police Department (HPD) issued a media release on July 25 on an investigation into the death of a 17-year-old at a beach in Kailua-Kona, according to are release from the HPD. The teen was found unresponsive on the ocean floor, and an autopsy has been ordered to determine the exact cause of the death.
