Hawaii Vehicle Registration and Licensing Division extends validity of vehicle documents

The Hawaii Vehicle Registration and Licensing Division has extended the validity of documents that expired starting March 16, 2020.

Expired driver's license, permits and state identification will be valid until June 8, 2021. The department is not accepting walk-ins. Customers should set their appointments through the online scheduleras no walk-ins are welcome at this time.

“Face coverings must be worn and customers must adhere to the recommended 6-foot social distancing at all times,” according to the county's website. “Only those customers receiving services will be allowed inside the lobby, and minors or those needing additional assistance may have one additional person accompany them, if needed. If you have traveled off-island within the past 10 days, have a fever of 100.4, are feeling sick or have taken a COVID-19 test without receiving the results, do not attempt to visit our offices for services.”

Vehicle Registration and Licensing offices in Pahoa, Hilo, Waimea, and Kona will be open for limited services from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. The Naʻalehu (Ka'u) office will be open on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. 

Written tests are administered between 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. only. Vehicle registration for out-of-state transfers and salvage vehicles are accepted from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. only.

The new real ID enforcement deadline has also been extended until Oct. 1, 2021.
