“Swim with the Honu, sip a Mai Tai and soak in the unique hospitality of the island of Hawaii,” the Ironman organizers enticingly invited competitors on their website. “This race allows athletes to ride in the shadows of the greats along the northern portion of the legendary Ironman World Championship bike course while experiencing the island’s warm hospitality.”
Along with the invitation is a call to follow public safety guidelines and COVID-19 health protocols. Inter-island travelers who have been fully vaccinated in Hawaii can bypass the 10-day traveler quarantine, according to Big Island Times.
“As a reminder for all athletes traveling to the Island of Hawaii, you will need to follow all steps outlined at hawaiicovid19.com/travel in order to avoid a mandatory 10-day quarantine,” Ironman.com says. “Make sure you are vigilant in what is necessary according to the state of Hawaii.”
Participants who are traveling to the Big Islands are also reminded not to forget that they must have a negative COVID-19 test result to visit or join the event at its breathtaking location, the Kohala Coast. They can learn more about the 2021 Ironman 70.3 Hawaii Course on The Hawaiian Islands.
“Nicknamed Honu, in honor of the Hawaiian green sea turtle, the Ironman 70.3 Hawaii offers competitors a beautiful venue,” The Hawaiian Islands website says. “It starts with an open-ocean swim and follows with a challenging course along the northern half of the Ironman World Championship bike course.”
The public is also advised that there will be road restrictions in the Kohala Coastline area with alternate routes to the closed highways, and locals should also expect traffic delays. A complete list of road restrictions and traffic information can be viewed here: Ironman 70.3 Hawaii website.
