Soul Community Planet (SCP) is bringing its vision of holistic hospitality to Hawaii with a new hotel in Hilo.
The SCP Hilo Hotel incorporates SCP’s core values of wellness, kindness and sustainability. Among the hotel’s features are the use of sustainable and regionally sourced materials within its guestrooms and a provisions market offering healthy foods and drinks to guests.
“SCP Hilo is part of a small but growing portfolio of hotels dedicated to providing holistic hospitality experiences for individuals desiring to make positive choices for themselves, our communities and the planet,” SCP cofounder and CEO Ken Cruse told Big Island Times.
SCP also has hotel properties in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and two in Oregon: Redmond and Depoe Bay.
“There is an existing and growing demand from conscious travelers for hotels that are committed to the values of healthy, kind and green,” Cruse said. “We target travelers via both traditional and nontraditional marketing channels, social media and rely on guest reviews for additional brand advocacy.”
Guests of SCP hotels will help drive positive change in the world, as each hotel stay provides well-being mental-health tools to one adolescent, assistance to one family caring for a critically ill child, and the planting of one tree in an unnaturally deforested area. Additionally, each stay at the SCP Hilo Hotel will remove 2.2 pounds of trash from Hawaii’s local beaches through the Hawaii Wildlife Fund, according to the hotel's website.
“As there are unique needs here in Hawaii, we wanted to create a local partnership that would reflect our values and help ensure that we support efforts of organizations such as the Hawaii Wildlife Fund to keep the Island of Hawaii's beaches magnificent and pure,” Cruse said.
Hawaii Wildlife Fund (HWF) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization focused on the conservation of Hawaii’s marine wildlife.
The trash removal effort is part of HWF’s goal to remove approximately 15 to 20 tons of plastics and other marine debris each year.
SCP Hilo is located in the space that was formerly the Hilo Seaside Hotel, according to HospitalityNet. SCP purchased the 138-room hotel and put in $4.6 million of renovation work before the hotel's reopening on June 1.
