A one-of-a-kind farmers market is held every Sunday in Hamakua.
It’s an agricultural destination for those interested in integrating production, processing, marketing and the sale of local goods.
The Hamakua Farmers Market is every Sunday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the intersection of Mamane Street and Highway 19 in historic Honokaa Town.
There you can find fresh local produce, baked goods, gluten-free pastries and bread, hot food, coffee, specialty plants, jewelry (Ni'ihau Shell Leis, earrings and more) and tropical flowers, according to the market’s Facebook page.
In addition, free agricultural and nutrition education events are held at the market, the objective of which is to help reinvigorate the region’s reputation as one of Hawaii’s foremost agricultural districts.
The market’s mission is to provide a whole system, an integrated agricultural hub and model for the community at large, where people can collaborate, network and strategize about the benefits of living within a rural community.
The market is specifically for locally produced goods, ono food, live music and an overall fun atmosphere that offers a beautiful Hamakua ocean view, along with an event that is welcoming for the entire family — even the dog, as long as it's leashed, according to HubHawaii.
As HubHawaii says, “Drink a coconut, buy a T-shirt and experience the warm hospitality of Hamakua.”
