Support local Big Island businesses this week: fresh foods, crafts, jewelry, gifts, Scrabble and more.

Any day of the week, you can support local vendors on the Big Island. Every day until Sunday, Oct. 17, from 9 a.m to 9 p.m, various handcrafted items, clothing and jewelry are available for purchase at the Aloha Stadium Craft and Gift Fair. There are also island fruits and local snacks sold at the fair, as well as Korean and Japanese imports. There is a $1 admission and free parking. The craft fair is located in the upper Halawa parking lot (50th State Fair parking lot). The address is 99-500 Salt Lake Boulevard in Aiea.

For "word nerds" who love scrabble, you can play free at Scrabble at the Lava Shack every Saturday from 2 p.m to 4 p.m. at 15-2929 Pahoa Village Road in Pahoa. Contact 661-858-4318 or email celizsolange@gmail.com for more information. This event runs through the end of September, and all skill levels are welcome.

A large variety of local produce is available every Sunday at The Farmers' Market at Hamakua Harvest. Visit the weekly market from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 44-2600 Mamalahoa Highway in Waimea, located at the intersection of Mamane Street and Highway 19 in the Historic Honoka'a Town. You can expect live music, a fun atmosphere and an ocean view. "Drink a coconut, buy a T-shirt and experience the warm hospitality of Hamakua," says HubHawaii.
