Milnor Fook Cheong Lum

Milnor Fook Cheong Lum, 94, a long-time resident of Pana'ewa, died September 30, 2021, in Hilo. Lum was the son of Hing Lum and Harriett Maina'aupō, born January 24, 1927, in Honolulu, he worked much of his career in landscaping design and maintenance for the counties in Hawai'i and as an entrepreneur in the same field. He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran and an advocate of self-sufficiency, education, and preserving Hawaiian heritage. He was a “doer” in word and deed.

Lum and his wife, Mary Svaling, were married on December 17, 1966, in Honolulu. She preceded him in death in 2006. His descendants from a previous marriage to Ramona Alolor include children, Bran Furman (Kathie), Dina Hinkle (Shannon) and Scott Furman; grandchildren, Nicholas Furman (Stephanie), Vincent Furman (Michelle), Kris Patel (Rachel) and Jennifer Patel Sobus (Phil); and one great-grandchild, Marleigh Rose Furman. He was a Brother, a Papa and an Uncle to many who loved him dearly.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a private graveside service will be held at the Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No.2 on Thursday, October 7, 2021, with burial to follow.
