May Kihawahineluluonamoku Kamelamela, 86, of Hilo died Oct. 5 at her residence. Born in Honolulu on May 5, 1935, she was the daughter of Jack N. Kuiee Baker and Emma G Kapela Willis and also raised by Uluhiakauikawahinehilahilaoleopauahi Paia of Molokai. she was a homemaker, member of Hale Pule Ke Ola Hou Church in Hilo, Hawaiian Civic Club and Pahoa Booster Club, former member of Hawaiian Bowling Club and Hawaii State Women Bowling Association.
Visitation from 8:30–10:30 a.m. Monday (October 25, 2021) at Dodo Mortuary Chapel; funeral service at 10:30. Burial to follow at the East Hawaii Veterans Cemetery #2. Casual attire. Seating Limited. Face masks and social-distancing required.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert “Opu” Kamelamela; children, Robert Kamelamela, Michael Kamelamela, Danette Kamelamela, Eliza Kahele-Kamelamela Poiapuni; siblings, Jack Baker, Howard Baker, Leonard Mamala, Edward Baker. Survived by sons, Mallory Kamelamela of Hilo, Derrick (Roxanne) Kamelamela of Pahoa; daughters, Puaala (Cameron) Hiro of Hoolehua, Molokai, Karen Jo (Scott) McMichael of the Mainland; daughters-in-law, Lee Ann Kamelamela of Hilo, Michele Kamelamela of Pahoa; brother, George Baker of Honolulu; sisters, Emma Sarono of Tacoma, Washington, Susie (Thomas Popovich) Kama of Honolulu; sister-in-law, Maile Baker of Tacoma, Washington; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces & nephews.
