Gov. David Ige (D) has recently released $2.2 million of capital improvement project funding (CIP) for projects in Waimea.

The funds released by Ige will help with design improvements at Waimea Middle Public Conversion Charter School and will support upgrades for the Kamuela Vacuum Cooling Plant on Hawaii Island.

“I’d like to thank Gov. Ige for releasing funding to finance design improvements at Waimea Middle Public Conversion Charter School to comply with current ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) standards and to upgrade the electrical and telecommunications systems,” Hawaii Sen. Lorraine Inouye (D-Hilo) told Big Island Now. “Upgrading school facilities to current ADA standards is crucial to ensuring that faculty, staff and students have equal opportunities.”

Waimea Middle Public Conversion Charter School received $300,000 to be able to comply with current ADA standards and $1.2 million for construction to upgrade the electrical and telecommunication systems, according to Big Island Now.

Kamuela Vacuum Cooling Plant on the Big Island received $700,000 in funding for the demolition of a warehouse and clearing of related environmental hazards.
