Margarita "Dayday" Leyson Hopkins

Margarita “Dayday” Leyson Hopkins, 71, of Hilo, HI, died at home on Saturday, November 6, 2021 after a 4-year battle with ALS. Born in Maasin, the Philippines, she was an Economist and former Director of the Department of Research and Development with the County of Hawaii, and a lecturer in economics and agribusiness at UH-Hilo. She was a steadfast champion for local farmers and entrepreneurs, a leader in the State and local Visayan community, and an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Friends may call at the St. Joseph Catholic Church on Friday, November 19, 2021 from 8:00 AM to 9:30 AM, where a Mass will be held at 9:30 AM, followed by cremation. Limited seating, face masks and social distancing required. Family requests casual attire and no flowers. She is survived by her: Husband, Kevin Hopkins of Hilo, HI; Son, Shanon (Elenita) Hopkins of California; Daughters, Leyson (David) Sakai of Hilo, HI and Alyxandra (Daniel) Croft of Texas; Sister, Magdalena (Gene) Rio of the Philippines; 11 grandchildren, a niece and a nephew.
