Fourteen venues and events were recognized in the annual Hawaii Green Business Program Awards Jan. 14, honoring them for energy efficiency and sustainable business practices that will advance the state’s clean energy and sustainability goals.
"First Lady of Hawaii Dawn Amano-Ige and I were honored to recognize 14 businesses today for their 'green' practices," Hawaii Gov. David Ige (D) posted on Facebook Jan. 14. "Some of the things the businesses have implemented to be more green include installing LED lights and solar panels, recycling paper and food scraps, incentivizing employees to commute by bike, using low-flow faucets to reduce water consumption and more. The awards given to them today recognize the commitment and hard work they’ve put in to making Hawaii more sustainable and helping advance the state’s clean energy and sustainable goals. Way to go!"
The ceremony was hosted by the Hawaii State Energy Office, the Hawaii State Department of Health and the Honolulu Board of Water Supply. This marks the second year the Hawaii Green Business Program was held virtually due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Created by the Hawaii State Energy Office and the Department of Health in 2002, the program provides technical assistance to businesses, government agencies and nonprofits that want to operate in a more environmentally and socially responsible manner, according to the governor's office.
