Hawaii County COVID-19 cases averaged 434 per day over past week

New COVID-19 cases in Hawaii County went down 32% over the past two weeks, with the average number of daily cases over the past week reaching 434, according to data from the State of Hawaii Department of Health.

The level of new daily COVID-19 cases in Hawaii County, based on a seven-day average, stands at 215.2 per 100,000 people, the agency reported.

The total number of coronavirus cases recorded on the Big Island since the pandemic began is 21,721, according to the department’s data. The current percentage of patients testing positive for the virus is unavailable.

The share of the Big Island’s population that is now fully vaccinated is 66%. And total COVID-19 deaths in Hawaii County now number 158. 

Over the past week, the number of coronavirus tests performed on the Big Island was unavailable. "Due to the volume of incoming lab results, HDOH has temporarily stopped processing negative results in order to prevent delaying the processing of positive results. Because of this, percentage positivity and testing information are not currently available," the Department of Health said.
