New COVID-19 cases in Hawaii County numbered down 44% over the past two weeks, with the average number of daily cases over the past week reaching 236, according to data from the State of Hawaii Department of Health.

The level of new daily COVID-19 cases in Hawaii County, based on a seven-day average, stands at 117.3 per 100,000 people, the agency reported.

The total number of coronavirus cases recorded on the Big Island since the pandemic began is 23,466, according to the department’s data. The current percentage of patients testing positive for the virus is unavailable.

The share of the Big Island’s population that is now fully vaccinated is 66%. And total COVID-19 deaths in Hawaii County now number 160. 

Over the past week, the number of coronavirus tests performed on the Big Island was unavailable, the Department of Health said. "Due to the volume of incoming lab results, HDOH has temporarily stopped processing negative results in order to prevent delaying the processing of positive results. Because of this, percent positivity and testing information are not currently available."
