Hawaii County COVID-19 cases averaged 68 per day over past week

New COVID-19 cases in Hawaii County numbered down 66% over the past two weeks, with the average number of daily cases over the past week reaching 68, according to data from the State of Hawaii Department of Health.

The level of new daily COVID-19 cases in Hawaii County, based on a seven-day average, stands at 33.8 per 100,000 people, the agency reported.

The total number of coronavirus cases recorded on the Big Island since the pandemic began is 25,328, according to the department’s data. The current percentage of patients testing positive for the virus is 7.2

The share of the Big Island’s population that is now fully vaccinated is 67%. And total COVID-19 deaths in Hawaii County now number 176. 

Over the past week, the average daily number of coronavirus tests performed on the Big Island was 847, the Department of Health said.
