Hawaii Gov. David Ige recently called on all state residents to get involved and celebrate National Library Week.
According to a press release from the National Library Association, National Library week took place the week of April 3–9 and Americans were encouraged to visit their local library branch as part of the week's celebration. The theme for National Library Week 2022 was “Connect with Your Library,” and encouraged readers to connect to their local library using broadband, computers and other resources.
"Calling all book lovers! This week is National Library Week, a time for us to celebrate our nation’s libraries, our library workers’ contributions, and promote library use and support. If you need a new book in your line up, there are unlimited options from our public libraries," Ige tweeted.
Actress, comedian Molly Shannon helped celebrate the event as the honorary chair of National Library Week.
"I am so honored to serve as honorary chair of National Library Week for 2022," Shannon said, according to the press release. "My mom was a librarian. She encouraged kids to read. So, the work of librarians and libraries has such a special place in my heart."
"Libraries are places where communities connect—to things like broadband, computers, programs and classes, books, movies, video games, and more. But most importantly, libraries connect us to each other. Supporting National Library Week in this role allows me to connect to my mother's memory and all the librarians out there. Thank you for everything you do."
ALA has also initiated a national campaign to Unite Against Book Bans.
