The Hawaii Department of Public Safety is currently hiring officers for positions in Oahu and Maui, according to a press release from the Gov. David Ige (D-HI).

According to the Department of Human Resources and Development website, recruitment for the State Sheriff's Division opened on April 15.

To qualify for positions with the department, applicants must have one year of law enforcement work experience.

All applicants must also be high school graduates and able to "read and comprehend complex written material, such as rules and regulations; write a clear, factual report; and have at least two years of work experience, which demonstrates these abilities."

Applicants will be required to undergo a testing phase and participate in a modified Law Enforcement Recruit Class. Training will include a combination of classroom and on-the-job training.
