Kiniya Holden Shippey

Kiniya Holden Shippey, 79, of Hilo, HI, died at the Life Care Center of Hilo on Thursday, April 14, 2022. She was born on the tiny outer Atoll of Mwoakilloa (Mokil) of Pohnpei island of the Federated States of Micronesia. Later her family moved to the island of Pohnpei where she attended Ohwa School. Eventually she had to quit school and go to work to help the family. She worked at many jobs, including the front and back of restaurants, a car parts factory, hotels, retail sales, and even picked fruit on a family farm. Besides Pohnpei, she lived in the states of Washington, Michigan, Guam, and finally Hawaii. She was a busy mother of nine and is survived by sons Rocky Holden (Mashaide) of Idaho; Russell Shippey of Washington; Robert Shippey of Michigan; Michael Shippey of Idaho; Tregar Shippey of Michigan and Daughters Mooka Alfons (Vence Finay) of Guam; and Kimiya Jean Shippey-Matthews (John) of Michigan. She is also survived by 29 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were husband Erle L Shippey Jr; her parents Enter and Sora Poll (nee Peter); siblings Bob, Mejihpel, Leah, Pereinj, Ehsa, Leah (younger), Luhpe and Ezekiel; her son George Enter Shippey and daughter Judy Remeliik. Private services were held.
