Diana “Dee” Asae Akiyama, 78, of Hilo died Apr. 8 at her residence. Born in Hilo, she was the owner of the former Akiyama Store in Keaau, employed at Del Monte Corporation Papaya, Aloha Papaya, Island King of Hawaii, bowled with the Tuesday Night Trio, Wednesday Night Mixed Handicap, Orchid Isle Nisei Bowling Club and loved karaoke singing, fishing and gardening. Private services held. Family requests no flowers and no koden (monetary gifts). Survived by husband, Ben Akiyama of Hilo; son, Darin Akiyama of Hilo; daughter, Denise Akiyama-Sakoda of Hilo; brother, Russell (Carol Ginoza-Arikawa) Arikawa of Hilo; sisters-in-law, Aileen (Bruce) Yanagihara of Honolulu, Karen (Leonard Paik) Akiyama-Paik of Hilo; brother-in-law, Alvin (Jan) Akiyama of Keaau; grandchildren, Ariel, Rikelle, Laryssa; two great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.
