Gov. David Ige (D-HI) recently teamed up with the Hawaii Department of Health (HDOH) to recognize the dedicated Emergency Medical Services (EMS) practitioners and professionals across the state.

It was all a part of Emergency Medical Services Week, which was celebrated May 15-21. according to the governor's website.

"Every day across our state, EMS providers work with speed and expertise to save lives," said Dr. Alvin Bronstein, DOH EMS and Injury Prevention System Branch chief, according to the governor's website. "This week, we recognize the daily heroism of our EMS providers and express our gratitude for their response to the challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic."

"Rising to the Challenge" was this year's theme for the week, which was set aside to honor EMS workers for the invaluable job they do each and every day.

The American College of Emergency Physicians and the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians are just a few supporters of National EMS Week.

Four county agencies make up the Hawaii's EMS and Injury Prevention System Branch, which aims to decrease the number of medical emergency deaths by providing a comprehensive emergency medical care system. Each county has the necessary staffing, facilities and equipment to give patients lifesaving emergency care when needed.
