Toshiko "Sally" Sasaki

Toshiko “Sally” Sasaki, 102, of Hilo, died peacefully in private care on February 2, 2023. She was born to the Watanabe family in Waiohinu and is the second youngest of twelve siblings. A survivor of the 1960 tsunami, she was a devoted Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, and Aunty to many. From working in the cane fields to achieving Women’s Badminton championships in the early 1940s, retiring after 30 years at Roberts Bakery, then traveling and trying her luck at casinos, she led a courageous and dignified life. She was a member of the Higashi Hongwanji Mission and a former member of the Iwalani Kumiai. Private services held. Donations in her honor can be made to the Pacific Tsunami Museum or the Hawaii Japanese Center. She is survived by her sons, Alvin (Terri) Sasaki and Russel (Frances) Sasaki; Grandson, Jayme Sasaki, and Great Grandson, Keahi Sasaki; nieces and nephews.
