Hawaii County COVID-19 cases averaged 8 per day over past week

New COVID-19 cases in Hawaii County were down 31.5% over the past two weeks, with the average number of daily cases over the past week reaching eight, according to data from the state’s Department of Health.

The level of new daily COVID-19 cases in Hawaii County based on a seven-day average stands at 3.8 per 100,000 people, the agency reported.

The total number of coronavirus cases recorded on the Big Island since the pandemic began was 43,947, according to the department’s data. The current percentage of patients testing positive for the virus is 3.5.

The share of the Big Island’s population that is now fully vaccinated is 70%. And total COVID-19 deaths in Hawaii County now number 242. 

Over the past week, the number of average daily coronavirus tests performed on the Big Island was 192 , the Department of Health said.
