U.S. Senator Mazie K. Hirono from Hawaii, along with 26 of her Senate colleagues, has introduced a resolution to commemorate the International Transgender Day of Visibility. In a statement, Senator Hirono expressed, “Today, we celebrate the bravery, resilience, and contributions of the transgender community and reaffirm our commitment to helping ensure all people—regardless of their identity—can feel safe in our communities and live freely with dignity and respect.”

The resolution, spearheaded by Senator Brian Schatz from Hawaii and supported by various other senators, aims to uplift the contributions and courage of the transgender community globally while shedding light on the ongoing discrimination faced by this community. Senator Hirono emphasized the importance of combatting hate and advancing justice for the LGBTQ+ community in the face of continued challenges.

The resolution has garnered support from organizations such as the National Center for Transgender Equality, the Human Rights Campaign, and the Congressional Equality Caucus. Additionally, a companion resolution has been introduced in the House of Representatives by U.S. Representative Sara Jacobs from California.

The resolution serves as a symbolic gesture to highlight the struggles and triumphs of the transgender community and advocate for a more inclusive and accepting society.
