The Hawai‘i Department of Health (DOH) Food Safety Branch has granted permission for Crackin’ Kitchen to reopen following a successful follow-up inspection. The restaurant, situated at 2330 Kalākaua Ave. Unit 318, had been temporarily closed on October 1 after receiving a red placard due to a water backup issue in the kitchen.

On October 2, inspectors revisited the establishment and confirmed that the problem had been resolved and that the floor was sanitized. The restaurant was advised to continue monitoring and maintaining proper drainage.

The DOH Food Safety Branch is responsible for safeguarding public health in Hawai‘i by educating food industry workers and regulating food establishments across the state. Their duties include conducting routine inspections of locations where food is prepared, manufactured, distributed, or sold.

In addition to regular inspections, the branch investigates sources of foodborne illnesses and potential adulteration incidents. They are tasked with reducing the impact of such occurrences to prevent future incidents. The specialists work collaboratively with business owners, food service workers, and others in the food industry to ensure safe preparation practices and sanitary conditions.
