The Hawaiʻi State Department of Health (DOH) Food and Drug Branch has issued a recall alert for several frozen waffle brands due to potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. The affected products, sold across the United States, include Kodiak Cakes, Good & Gather, and Great Value brands. These items were available at supermarkets and retailers in Hawai‘i.

Listeria monocytogenes is known to cause listeriosis, a severe infection that can be fatal. It poses significant risks to pregnant individuals, newborns, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems. Symptoms in healthy individuals may include fever, headache, muscle aches, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. While symptoms can appear up to two months after consumption of contaminated food, they typically begin within several days.

The DOH advises anyone showing symptoms after consuming these products to seek medical attention immediately. So far, there have been no reported illnesses linked to the recalled waffles.

Consumers are encouraged to verify their purchases against the list on the FDA website and return any affected products for a full refund. For further inquiries or information about the recall process, TreeHouse Foods can be contacted at 800-596-2903 during specified hours or via email.

Further details about the recalled products are available on the FDA website.
