The inaugural Hawai‘i State LGBTQ+ Commission is focusing on educating the public about Constitutional Amendment One. The amendment seeks to address a significant change in the state constitution concerning marriage laws.
Voters are being asked, “Shall the state constitution be amended to repeal the legislature’s authority to reserve marriage to opposite-sex couples?” A vote in favor, or a YES vote, would support removing Section 23 from Article 1 of the Hawai‘i State Constitution. In contrast, a NO vote or leaving the ballot BLANK would mean not supporting this deletion.
For Constitutional Amendment No. 1 to pass, it requires a majority of YES votes from all ballots cast in Hawai‘i's 2024 General Election.
