The Circuit Court of the Third Circuit on Hawaiʻi Island is inviting applications for the role of independent grand jury counsel in Hilo and Kona. The position offers compensation as determined by law.
According to Article I, Section 11 of the State of Hawaiʻi Constitution, an independent counsel must be appointed whenever a grand jury is convened. This counsel advises the grand jury on matters presented to it, as outlined by law.
Hawaiʻi Revised Statutes (§612-51 to §612-57) dictate that the chief justice of the state supreme court appoints grand jury counsel for each of the state's four judicial circuits. Candidates must be licensed to practice law in Hawaiʻi and cannot be public employees.
Interested individuals seeking a one-year appointment in either Hilo or Kona should submit a letter of interest and resume by April 15, 2025. Applications should be addressed to Chief Judge Wendy M.
