The Kaua‘i District Health Office (KDHO) of the Hawaiʻi State Department of Health (DOH) is set to observe National Public Health Week 2025 by hosting an open house. The event will take place on April 11, 2025, from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 3040 Umi St. in Līhuʻe. It is free and open to the public, and no RSVP is required.

This year's theme, “It Starts Here,” emphasizes the significance of individual contributions to the well-being of home, communities, and the state. Activities and entertainment will cater to all age groups.

“National Public Health Week lets us share with the public the many programs and services that DOH offers to enhance the well-being of our communities,” stated Dr. Janet Berreman, the Kaua‘i district health officer. She added, “When we understand and support public health, all of us — from keiki to kūpuna — can work together to create opportunities to be healthy and thrive.”

DOH staff will be present to discuss their work and explore how the community can collectively tackle public health issues. The event offers an opportunity for attendees to learn about careers in public health, especially for students and those considering career changes. The staff includes a diverse group of professionals, from health educators to environmental health specialists.

“This is a great opportunity for residents and community partners to learn more about DOH’s public health programs while networking and enjoying interactive activities,” said Dr. Berreman. She encouraged community support, saying, “KDHO staff members look forward to welcoming everyone at this event and saying ‘mahalo!’ to our community and partners for their ongoing support to build a healthier Kaua‘i.”

Accommodations for disabilities can be requested by contacting KDHO at 808-241-3495 or via email. The DOH assures a non-discriminatory environment and provides information on language accessibility and complaint filing through Acting Non-Discrimination Coordinator Valerie Kato.
