Sen. Hirono urges Federal Reserve to issue final rule on capital rules for banks

Senator Mazie K. Hirono (D-HI) has joined forces with 11 other senators in a call to the Federal Reserve and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), among others, to implement a final rule on capital for banks. Despite proposing a rule on regulatory capital in July 2023, the Federal Reserve has yet to officially adopt this proposal as a final rule.
Hawaii Attorney General urges FCC to restrict artificial intelligence in marketing calls

Attorney General Anne Lopez has joined forces with 25 other attorneys general in signing a letter that urges the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to impose restrictions on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in marketing phone calls. This comes after the FCC sought public comment on the application and potential impact of AI in communications under the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA), without implementing any restrictions at that point.

Hawaii Department of Education announces settlement with female athletes at Campbell HIgh

This week, the Hawaii Department of Education revealed a proposed settlement in a class action lawsuit alleging unequal treatment of girls' athletic programs at Campbell High School. The U.S. District Court of Hawaii had issued preliminary approval for the settlement in October 2023, with the next hearing scheduled for the following month.

Attorney General Anne Lopez joins coalition urging ban on menthol cigarettes, flavored cigars

Hawaii Attorney General Anne Lopez, along with nearly two dozen other attorneys general, has submitted a letter to the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) concerning the administration's review of a proposed rule to ban menthol flavored cigarettes and flavored cigars. The letter implores the administration to promptly enact the public health regulation proposed in 2022.
