Hawaii K-12, Title I, schools are projected to receive federal funding of $56 million for the 2021-2022 school year, according to a KHON2 report.

This is a $2.3 million increase from the 2020-2021 school year funding, the report said.

U.S. Senator Brian Schatz (D-HI) stated that these funds will help to benefit approximately 85,000 students that live in poverty, the report said. The funds will be used to support school efforts in "teacher professional development, new technology, teacher onboarding and other academic programs," as reported by KHON2.

“This new federal funding will help Hawaii public schools in low-income areas hire more teachers and offer more academic support programs for students in need,” Schatz said, as reported by KHON2. “As we rebuild our economy after this pandemic, we’ll keep working to make sure every kid can get a quality education in our state.”

According to the report, Hawaii County will receive $14 million, Honolulu City and County will receive $33 million, Kauai County will receive $2 million and Maui County will get $6 million.
