The University of Hawaiʻi Cancer Center will be featured as the setting of a new Disney+ original series, according to a news release by the University of Hawaiʻi.

Parts of the Cancer Center have been transformed to serve as a fictional hospital set for the new Disney+ original series, "Doogie Kamealoha, M.D.," a reboot of the 90s medical dramedy series, "Doogie Howser M.D."

“We’re so pleased that the University of Hawaiʻi Cancer Center and its team are working on this series, showcasing how collaboration of community and production can work together to the benefit of economic recovery, while creating a medical series, which will deliver a new perspective for viewers that embraces our island home,” Mike McCartney, Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism director said.

The show was created and written by Hawaiʻi-born Kourtney Kang and set to release later this year on Disney+.

Filming began on Feb. 1, and will take place on several island locations across the state.
