The University of Hawaii (UH) at Manoa’s “Just Play” project has been awarded the 2021 Course Development Prize in architecture, climate change and society.
“It is a national award that recognizes innovative course development and offers financial support to faculty,” Phoebe White, an assistant professor in landscape architecture at UH Manoa’s School of Architecture, said in a post on the UH website. “It also highlights our collaborative, interdepartmental efforts at UH exploring solutions for the critical issues of our times.”
UH Manoa received the award from the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture (ACSA) and the Temple Hoyne Buell Center for the Study of American Architecture at Columbia University. The ”Just Play” project encompasses a set of coordinated courses in architecture, landscape architecture and urban and regional planning focused on climate change. The five-week course will be offered to participating high schools through the Manoa Academy program and involve designing equity-based educational games.
